Context of the School

We are a school who have developed and honed our skills and understanding of our pupils over many years. We have created a highly successful community, an all-age specialist provision, for pupils with Severe and/or Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (SLD or PMLD), including Autism. Our 21st Century, hyper modern school is in the market town of Newtown, Powys, and serves not only the local community but the whole of Central and North Powys and even over the border. Local Authorities have a legal obligation to provide support for young people with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) in their locality and have to comply with Welsh government regulations.

We are currently at capacity with 108 pupils on our roll arranged in 14 classes by developmental phase and not age. Pupils are in Reception through to Year 14. We receive referrals from the Local Authority for pupils that may require a special needs school placement with us in the future. Most pupils stay with us until 18 before moving onto college placements.

The Head teacher is responsible for ensuring the progress and well-being of all pupils in the school. The Head teacher ensures the curriculum, and the learning environment allows everyone to flourish. The effectiveness of the provision is monitored and evaluated by the Governing Body, the Local Authority and external agencies such as Estyn.
