The Upper Phase lead is Patrick Wilding

“Hi and welcome to the upper phase. We cater for the older learners here at Ysgol Robert Owen, who move into our phase when they are ready to learn. We deliver the Curriculum for Wales through the six areas of learning experiences to facilitate the learners developing towards the Four Purposes of the curriculum. We aim to deliver a rich and meaningful curriculum that progresses learning through authentic learning contexts. We also focus on life skills and preparing our young adults for life after school, whatever that may look like for them, whether that’s supporting them with their transition to Further Education, employment or independent living. The older learners will work towards relevant and meaningful qualifications at a level that is appropriate to them and their needs. Wherever possible our older learners will gain work experience and access the wider community to prepare them for life after school.”

Our Curriculum in Upper Phase

Whilst our learners are in upper phase, we deliver a curriculum which focuses on the six areas of learning experiences of the Curriculum for Wales, which includes Expressive Arts, Health and Wellbeing, Humanities, Languages literacy and Communication, Maths and Numeracy and Science and Technology at a stage that is appropriate to the learner’s individual progress. As they progress through the phase to post 14 we introduce a varied range of qualifications at various levels and increase the focus on life skills in our brand new, purpose built life skills room.
