“Hi and welcome to lower phase. Lower phase is at the beginning of a learner’s journey at Ysgol Robert Owen. We focus on the element of fun and the enjoyment of learning through play based learning. As our learners develop and grow, we use the principles of enabling adults, enabling environments and engaging environments to develop the whole child and prepare them to move on to the wider curriculum. Our learners will move on from lower phase, as curious and inquisitive learners, with the skills and means to communicate their need, wants and choices.”
Our Curriculum in Lower Phase
Whilst our learners are in lower phase, we focus on the development of the whole child and preparing their readiness for learning. We facilitate this holistic learning approach through the Developmental Pathways, which form part of the Curriculum for Wales preparing learners towards the Four Purposes. As our learners develop and grow, we move them onto the progression steps and the areas of learning experience within the curriculum structure, at a time and pace that is right for them.
