We are a maintained Special School in Newtown, Powys that caters for a wide range of learners with additional learning needs from the ages 4 to 19. Set in a new, purpose built, 21st Century School which features a hydrotherapy pool, 2 sensory rooms, rebound room, garden, community café and much more.
Our school is structured into Lower, Upper and Nurture phases. Each phase has a different identity and learning focus, but a shared curriculum that connects us into a single learning community, with a clear focus on the Four Purposes of the Welsh Curriculum and the development of each individual learner in our care.
Our Lower Phase is represented by the trees as within this phase the youngest learners in our school family are growing, learning how to communicate, are supported in their physical development and well-being, learning through exploration whilst rooted in a sense of belonging.
Lower PhaseOur Upper Phase is represented by the mountains as within this phase our learners are ready to learn and reaching for their full potential and preparing for adulthood and life long learning. Building on the readiness to learn of the Lower Phase our Upper Phase learners will experience a more structured learning experience based in real life authentic contexts and develop towards completing relevant accredited qualifications.
Upper Phase
Our Nurture Phase is represented by the rivers, as it runs through everything we do. Our learners in this phase require more individual, bespoke provision to meet their needs and support their early cognitive development, their communication and social interaction skills, and their interaction with the environment.
Nurture PhaseOur learners are at the heart of everything we do, and we believe that through a greater connection to Nature and the wider world beyond our school, we can Nurture our learners and make them feel valued and help them grow so that they can access the Knowledge and skills they need to be successful and happy in life.
