School Development Priorities
A School Development Plan (SDP) is a strategic document that sets out a school’s priorities for improvement and the actions it will take to achieve them. It outlines the school’s vision, key targets, and the steps needed to enhance teaching, learning, wellbeing, and the overall school environment. The SDP is based on evidence—such as learner progress, staff feedback, and self evaluation—and helps ensure that everyone in the school community is working towards the same goals. It also identifies the resources, training, and timelines required to make meaningful, sustained progress.
Essentially, the School Development Plan acts as a roadmap for ongoing improvement, supporting the school to provide the best possible outcomes for all learners.
Pupil Development Grant
The Pupil Development Grant (PDG) is funding provided by the Welsh Government to help schools reduce the impact of poverty on educational attainment, specifically supporting children and young people from low‑income households and those who are care‑experienced. This grant aims to remove barriers to learning and ensure that all pupils can reach their full potential.
At Ysgol Robert Owen, we use the PDG to provide targeted support that enhances wellbeing, communication, and progress for our learners. This includes delivering high‑quality teaching and tailored interventions, strengthening relationships through a community‑focused approach, and ensuring pupils receive the emotional, social, and academic support they need to thrive.
The funding allows us to prioritise personalised provision, ensuring that every learner—particularly those facing socio‑economic challenges—has access to meaningful opportunities and the foundations for lifelong learning.
